Well, i recently have been accepted into a university with my desired major of chemical engineering. My father told me that by choosing and dropping certain subjects it would be possible for me to pursue a career along the lines of environmental engineering, rather than sticking to the industrial side of chemical engineering, which it is known for. I would like to know weather this is possible, and if so, what subjects should I be looking to take. Thank you.

With a degree in cheme you can literally do anything. Depending on the caliber of the university into which you've been accepted, you should have no problem getting a job doing environmental engineering or any other type of engineering with a cheme degree. You will still have to take the basic cheme classes, which will include an introductory mass balance course, thermodynamics, energy and mass phenomena, fluid mechanics, and process design courses. Chemes typically have a very heavy course load, but you should still be able to fit in classes related to environmental engineering, and you might even be able to pick up a minor. Talk to your advisor about exactly what classes to take relating to env. eng. as it varies by university.
