How 'actually' invented the lightbulb

In 1903 Willis Whitnew invented a filament that would not blacken the inside of a light bulb. It was a metal-coated carbon filament. In 1906, the General Electric Company was the first to patent a method of making tungsten filaments for use in incandescent light bulbs. The filaments were costly, but by 1910 William David Coolidge had invented an improved method of making tungsten filaments.......

In 1889 the Edison Electric Light Company merged with several other Edison companies to become the Edison General Electric Company. When the Edison General Electric Company merged with Thomson-Houston in 1892, a bitter struggle developed, Edison's name was dropped, and Edison himself had no more involvement with the newly formed General Eclectic Company beyond defending his patents.

the question is - what do you define as a "lightbulb" ? cos at this moment you can change your definition to suite the result you want

So lets just see how well informed you are - lets have a definition first.

And also what do you mean by "invented"? cos this can also have range of meanings

Humphry Davy created the first prototype in 1802, but the designed burned after a few seconds and was too dim.

Joseph Swan was able to create light-bulbs using carbon filaments around 1860 and was able to make them commercially in the late 1870's. This occurred in England though and thus, the patent didn't exist in the US.

In the late 1870's, Edison started using carbon filaments as well and filed for a patent in the US.

At the end, Joseph Swan and Edison became business partners, which is why there was never a lawsuit regarding the patents.

Is this veering toward the lightbulb/lotus flower in ancient egyptian hieroglyphics? I was going to say tesla, but I would rather wait till you tell me before I google it.

The first light bulb was built by Humphry Davy (an Englishman) in 1809.
