Ok so Silver (Ag) has an atomic number of 47. To be stable it either has to gain electrons (7-) or lose electrons (7+) and sulfate is SO subscript 4 superscript 2-...so to balance it out why wouldn't it be Ag subscript 2 and then 7(SO4)?

Ag(2)SO(4) silver is a transition metal, so it will take on the charge that will counter the charge of the other element in the compound. In this case, SO(4) has a charge of 2-. Therefore, Ag will have a 2+ charge. btw () = subscript
