977 g of CCl4. Calculate the Empirical formula of the compound.I mean I understand I need to determine how much there is of H and C from the numbers given, but when trying to do that I get stumped. Can someone explain to me how I would go about trying to solve this question?-To get the amount of H,......
I'm so lost with trying to determine how about going to solve this question.

"A 1.254 g of an organic compound contains C,H and O. If it reacts with Cl2 it produces 4.730 g of HCI and 9.977 g of CCl4. Calculate the Empirical formula of the compound."

To get the amount of H, calculate the amount in 4.730 g of HCl. To get the amount of C, calculate the amount in 9.977 g of Carbon Tet. To get the amount of O, subtract these two number from 1.254 g of sample.

Set these three numbers as a weight ratio, then convert to a mole ratio, then convert to a ratio of (smallest) whole numbers. These are the subscripts in the empirical formula.
