What is anhydride in chemistry

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-10-22] [Hit: ]
What you do is remove water from each formula until all the hydrogen is gone.H2SO4 - subtract H2O and you are left with SO3.HNO3 - there is not enough hydrogen to make H2O, so double the formula to H2N2O6. Remove one H2O to leave N2O5, the anhydride of HNO3.......
p-block elements and experimental chemistry

-
compound that has lossed it h2O
an example is copper sulfate. When it is heated it looses mass and turns white because it is now waterless. Anhydrous means"waterless"

There is another meaning of anhydride, different than the answers you have received.

p-block elements include such elements as P, N and S. These non-metals form acids such as H3PO4, HNO3 and H2SO4.

Each of these compounds also has a corresponding anhydride.

What you do is remove water from each formula until all the hydrogen is gone.

H2SO4 - subtract H2O and you are left with SO3. SO3 is the anhydride of H2SO4

HNO3 - there is not enough hydrogen to make H2O, so double the formula to H2N2O6. Remove one H2O to leave N2O5, the anhydride of HNO3.

H3PO4 - remove H2O to get HPO3. Double the formula to H2P2O6. Remove a water to get P2O5.

hydride generally means 'with water'.
anhydride means absence of water.

have a simple example, 2CH3COOH --P2O5-->(CH3CO)2O
two molecules of acetic acid reacts with P2O5 dehydrates(loses water) to form acetic anhydride.

It's an organic molecule with oxygen, which is the p-block. The r groups represent carbon chains usually.
