[Chemistry - Energy change] Help me with this Chemistry question, I'm a little confused

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-10-21] [Hit: ]
energy is lost and temperature goes down.42.5 ºC - 4.5 ºC = 38 ºC.......
A thermometer is placed in water and the temperature is measured as shown [ 42.5 degree c. ] An endothermic change takes place as a solid is dissolved in the water. The temperature changes by 4.5 degree c. What is the final temperature?

A. 38 Dc
B. 38.5 Dc
C. 47.0 Dc
D 47.5 Dc

My teacher told me the answer is B, 38 Degree C. I thought the answer is D. I'm a little bit confused here. Can you please tell me why the answer is B?

Endothermic means it absorbs energy from the surroundings, in other words the surroundings get colder (lower energy)

You have said the the teacher told you the answer was 38 ºC, which is answer A, but you also say that the answer is B. The teacher is correct, it is answer A at 38 ºC.

Again, because it is endothermic, energy is lost and temperature goes down.

42.5 ºC - 4.5 ºC = 38 ºC.
