What will happen to plants that are kept in the dark?

-------------------------------------------------------

answers:
Clarissa Spencer say: They turn into mushrooms.
-
say: Shrooms or mold.
-
Al say: If they are green plants, they die.
-
Aislinn say: Simple; plants need sunlight to produce energy (through the chemical chlorophyll, one of the pigments that give plants their green color) and without sunlight, they spend all of their very limited energy reaching for it, which makes them extremely weak and more likely to die; without any light at all, the plants will just die without being able to produce energy.
-
Matthew say: They wont grow.
-
Paula say: Their growth becomes thin and spindly.
Eventually they die, because sunlight is a plant's source of energy..

That is what happens to the seeds of plants that get washed down into caves etc and then germinate.
-
say: Long enough, they will die
-
Christopher say: They will last for a long time due to the fact they of 2 processes of creating food for themselves which are photosynthesis and the Calvin cycle.
-
Kevan say: They will die. They need light to make food. If they are kept in the dark they will starve.
