PLEASE HELP! How can a plant be both sexual and asexual?

answers:
Metalplanttag say: Many plants are able to make clones of themselves and also produce seeds that are the next generation.
Most clones are vegetatively produced by producing special parts that break away or grow independently of the original plant, like bulbs, stolons, rhizomes.

Dwi say: Potato (Solanum tuberosum) can produce flowers, berries (fruits), and seeds ('true seeds'). The seeds can be grown and become potato plants. Plant breeders use the seeds for improving the potato cultivars (clones).
However, farmers use potato tubers as planting materials for commercial purposes.
So, potato can be reproduced using seeds (sexual) and tubers (asexual).

Cal King say: They can reproduce either way.

Max Hoopla say: It has to bee in the mood to be sexual.

L. E. Gant say: Take an African Violet...
You can pick a leaf and it can become a whole new plant -- that's asexual reproduction. Many plants can do this. Grafting is another form of it.
However, since there is also a flower, the plant can produce seeds. That's sexual, since you need both a stamen and a pistil. One produces pollen, while the other becomes an ovary. In some plants, the pollen from the stamen needs to come from another flower (or even another plant). And there are some plants that have strictly female plants (fruit producing) and strictly male plants (they sort of flower, but never produce fruit).
Since the two processes are independent of each other, a single plant can be both asexual and sexual at the same time.
