What will happen with a dead tree without oxygen? will it rot or turn into coal

A dead tree is mostly dry wood . It will remain that way ( dead wood for a pretty long time ) .

Later on it will be attacked by termites or similar wood eating worms and gradually disappear .

It will never turn in to coal by itself !

formation of coal ( wood charcoal) requires incomplete combustion !

Trees use carbon dioxide not oxygen.
