Ronald 7 say: Absence of Proof does not mean Proof of Absence
And just how far is it anyway ??

quantumclaustrophobe say: It's unknown if it does, and at the moment, no.
-
poldi2 say: Unknown if there is life, so unknown if we can communicate with them.
-
Davros say: Life: No idea. It's not impossible but that's not saying much.
Communication: That depends on if some examples of that life are capable of language, and reasoned enough to be able to build radio communications devices. The chances of that are remote in the extreme.
And even then, they have to be actively listening for radio signals from other star systems, happen to be looking in our direction AND actually be interested in replying to a message.
Even if the answer to all these conditions is a yes, then we wouldn't expect a snappy conversation. The Trappist system is 40 light years away meaning that asking a question and getting a reply would take an entire Human lifetime. It would still be utterly amazing, but getting to know one another would take many generations to accomplish.

Second Coming say: We are just lucky to know there is a planet or two there.
-
PhotonX say: If we ever discover life someplace other than on Earth, you won't have to come here to ask about it. If we ever discover advanced extraterrestrial life, you'll definitely hear about it. As things stand, since we can't yet know whether life exists there or anywhere else, there's no point in wondering about communications before we determine that.

Jeffrey K say: It might but we don t know yet.
To communicate with aliens, they must be intelligent enough to have language and technology. That is probably very rare.
-
The Grim Reaper say: No one knows, or will know for some time.
Not likely in our lifetimes, at any rate.

Acetek say: unknown

Nyx say: 1) unknown
2) See 1, above.
