Can we build a 1 km Death Star?

answers:
Paula say: Yes.
But we would not build a canyon around it that X-fighters to get into.
We learnt that lesson from Star Wars.
I do wonder how we got so much info from what happened in a galaxy that is far far faraway from ours.

Adullah M say: Yes you can collect all the nuclear war heads from all the Western Countries and send it out in space and explode it ,then you would get Death Star of ! km size.

ngc7331 say: sure, it'd be a fine model. but a working D.S. of that scale...unfortunately no

Bill say: We needed the Space Shuttle to build the International Space Station, and we don't currently have any flyable shuttles. Why would anyone want to build a Death star when we only have one planet?

kswck2 say: Sure, just use the Force Luke.

Storytime Simon say: The Space Force can!

Davros say: Almost - if we subtract a letter! I think we could manage a 1m Death Star.
It was called Telstar https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telstar
Not quite the destructive capacity of it's cousin from Star Wars, but it did allow "Leave it to Beaver" to be beamed all around the world. Trust me, that's almost as terrifying.
-
Acetek say: not at this time. we don't have the technology for that
