Will China continue with their Moon landing program and end up making a Moon Base, instead of the US?......

Will China continue with their Moon landing program and end up making a Moon Base, instead of the US?

answers:
Paula say: Yes. It seems to be the aim of China.
It is the first real challenge to US supremacy in space.
And it probably explains the recent announcement by the USA to put more people on the moon by 2026, including a "gateway" - a lunar orbiting base.

We are already seeing a USA response to China's initiative - the gateway..
It has been known for years that "moon based" telescopes on the moon's far side would have "clear skies" ALL of the time, with no city lights etc to compete with.

The problem being that it would be necessary to have personnel on the moon's far side to install and service the telescopes We may see that happen in the next few decades.

And it is just possible that China and USA will co-operate in the endeavor.
Because the USA is always saying that it needs international partners.
And the cost of building anything on the moon will be very high (astronomically high). It is doubtful if any single country could afford the price tag without help.

Adullah M say: China is already landed on the dark side of the moon .

While worried ,who is who ,when the moon is of mankind nearest neighbor.
-
J Rob say: Donald Trump needs to start a gofundme page. Tax cuts, boarder wall, Space Force. Moon, Mars etc....I thought conservatives saved money. Maybe Elon Musk should be President. He actually has money he made. He has a better space program than Trump.
-
Ronald 7 say: Probably
And farther on to Mars
NASA is a Lame Duck
No harm to you
-
bubby say: One should be less concerned with will they and more concerned with the true purpose of one.
-
quantumclaustrophobe say: Maybe... The public reaction to the latest landing in China is pretty quiet. A few have quietly questioned - among the trade war and tariff fight going on with the US - if space is the wisest thing to be spending money on...
-
Nyx say: So what if it is?
Why would that be a problem?
-
Bill say: The logistics and cost involved with creating a Moon base for any country, China, USA, whoever, are so astronomical (pun intended) as to be prohibitive. That is, there's no profit motive to set up such a moon base. There's no air, water or anything up there. Mining? Not cost effective until we deplete most of the resources on Earth. When Europeans traveled to North and South America, there was still air to breathe and water to drink. Up there, you have none of that.

wandycakes say: The Americans opened a Night club on the moon in the 70s. They had to close it after a short while as members said it had no atmosphere.
-
oneofmagi@rocketmail.com say: They will make colony of moon as soon as.
-
ngc7331 say: probably
-
sublimationtechnics say: Probably
-
james say: China made a mistake there. They think the moon is part of the Spartly islands. Yes they are building bases there. They think they own all there between the Spartlies, moon & China
-
jonniebaby say: I would think so
-
? say: Yes
-
say: Absolutely. The current US plan revolves around the "gateway" concept - a base on the moon itself is not part of the plan.

But once scientists start seeing how much cleaner their observations of deep space are from the Chinese probe on the far side of the moon (completely occluded from electromagnetic noise originating on earth), the desire will be generated, but the will to do it will still need to be fought for. It'll probably turn into another "space race", with the Chinese taking the place of the Russians and Sputnik. If the Chinese actually find something of value there -- well, then ...

This is also why the US has stood up a US Space Force - it's basically an invasion force poised to take whatever moon base foreign countries see fit to invest in building. It is far easier and cheaper to fund a military force to take what someone else has built than it is to build yourself.

Chinese should think about that as they proceed with their lunar aspirations... XD

Davros say: Perhaps. They're putting up a space station of their own soon and there are plans for a manned Moon landing. As for a Moonbase, only the USA is currently talking that language as far as I know.

But it's hard to say with the CNSA exactly what their long term aims are. They're heavily staged managed by the secretive Chinese state as they don't want to be seen as ever making a mistake in the eyes of the public. So whereas we got to see the success and failures of NASA, ESA and even Roscosmos as they were happening, we only get to hear about Chinese activities after they've been approved by the government as successes. News comes out in PR bursts.

They are apparently trying to be more open now at the request of their science partners - especially on the current mission which has a European science experiment on the project.
-
Egbert say: Probably. We should applaud their achievement.

Hindusufi say: I'd rather China spend money on the moon then aircraft carriers.
-
Kieth say: Huge difference between sending a probe and establishing a base.
