Technically China cannot claim the moon, nor could they defend such a claim.
However, if they establish an "Embassy" on the moon, that legally would be Chinese territory.

The moon is in the same situation as antartica- a nation could build a base on either and the land with in the base would be their territory but not outside the fence.

A *RESEARCH* base has nothing to do with claiming territory for China.
