We live in an era of profound scientific understanding and technological progress. Why then, do we still have significant numbers of people who live in what are considered to be educated countries more drawn to an understanding of the superstitions of astrology and the zodiac, than an understanding of astronomy and astrophysics?
What do you feel needs to change in society to address this? Do you feel astronomy is an undereducated field, especially in schools?
Is this even an issue that needs addressing, or am I just being needlessly reactionary by despising horoscopes and astrologers?

People are drawn to the idea that they can get special information about their personal future.
If there is a method that has some complexity to it, people can allow themselves to believe that it might work. Examples are astrology, ouija board, fortune tellers, palm reading, tarot cards. All of these have a complicated technique and have one or more elements of randomness which is viewed as a window through which special information can be obtained.
Not everyone is a scientist, and dealing the kinds of things listed above require an effort in critical thinking or repeated experiment A great many people have no interest or knowledge of those methods of determining what is likely real and what is likely not real. So, even though human knowledge continually increases, not everyone is interested in challenging things like astrology. They'd rather believe that it works.

Astrology is entertaining and diverting even when you ARE scientifically literate, and the majority of people are scientifically ignorant because of fear or choice AND scientifically ILliterate. Most horoscopes are INTENTIONALLY written so vaguely that half the time half the people reading them will be inclined that the horoscope applies to their lives. It's the Same game as statisticians usually play - manipulate the statistics so that the statistics say what the company paying for the survey and statistical analysis WANTS the statistics to say. Astrology isn't any different. It's still entertaining.
