Why do they call it 2 squared when a square is OBVIOUSLY 4 sided.
-
Because normally numbers are in one dimension. For example when I say 10 meters, I only mean a line 10m long. But if you draw a secondary plane perpendicular to the initial, and draw the same line there, their connection will form a square, which has the area of 10x10.
Cube also has 8 corners and 12 sides, but we show it as ^3. Because what the third power does is add another perpendicular dimension.
Therefore it's caused by dimensional thinking, and is one of the toughest things to describe through writing.

Because a square is 2 dimensional while a cube is three dimensional hence 2 cubed.

When we solve the area of a square we use the unit with a square sign, such as m^2, cm^2..//
