What would happen to earth if it stopped rotating

This question came up during a discussion at work several months ago. At the time I calculated the energy it would take to stop the Earth's rotation. I don't recall the answer now and I'm not going to recalculate it, but I figured it in terms of the number of "Tsar Bomba" thermonuclear bombs (the largest hydrogen bomb humans (the Russians) have ever exploded - look it up in Wikipedia). The answer, as I recall, was several billion of these devices, simultaneously. Qualitatively, this would make a real mess of the planet.

After the rotation was stopped, the result would extreme high temperatures on the side facing the sun and extreme low temperatures on the side facing away from the sun. Look up the planet Mercury on Wikipedia.

we would all fly out into space because the earth rotates at a ridiculously fast speed





the planet would begin to boil and freeze depending on which side of the sun was facing it, life as we know it would end

Life will get end.
No season changes,no day or night.
No proper sun light, because of that flora gets end.Then fauna ..

There is no more.

we would all fly eastward at 1000 mph, then the magnetic field would shut down due to no churning core, and anyone who miraculously survived would be killed by a gamma ray burst.

A day and a night would each be equal to 1 year.

We would all die, that's how fast it's spinning
