It takes a LOT of very skilled people working in cohesion to launch space missions. Politicians and lawyers have to make sure the space agency has the necessary funding. Layers have to make sure what they are doing is legal and constitutional. Medical doctors have to make sure the astronauts stay healthy and doctors often fly into space to make sure the crew is okay. All sorts of engineers have to collaborate to design equipment for use. Mathematicians and physicists do a lot of the theoretical work, on Earth as well as in space. Life scientists work with the medical doctor to care for the crew and to help learn about the effects of long term travel in zero G on the human body.

Thus there are many paths to a career related to astronomy and many paths to actually becoming an astronaut. You can look up the backgrounds of astronauts to see what they studied and you will see a very very very varied background.

What else did you have in mind? You could be a science fiction writer. But if you want to do research on space, you'll need a PhD in physics or astronomy, and if you want to do useful experiments you'll need a PhD in something.

Well the only time travel studies or experiments are in science fiction. As for "outer space" if you want to be an astronaut there are pretty much only 3 career fields. Scientist, test pilot, or teacher.
