You are not alone in your thoughts, however, that is all they are, is thoughts. There is absolutely zero evidence that any life anywhere outside of Earth, exists, has existed, or ever will exist. There is zero reson to dismiss the possibility, of course. But let's look at your critical thinking skills, just for a moment.

You state that because the universe is so BIG, that life must be out there somewhere. Size is not a requirement for life. You and I both know this. If size mattered, then Jupiter would be swarming with life, and the Sun would have even more than that. There are numerous factors in determining if life can possibly exist in a specific location in the universe, and as we learn more about the complex nature of the DNA molecule, the time rewuired for enough 'heavy elements' to be abundant enough for proteins to form, the age of the universe, the 'habitable zone,' the probability of liquid water remaining on the surface of a planet with a small enough orbital eccentricity long enough for life to develop... well, let's just say the Drake Equation is ignorant of a lot variables, and the ones it does include, nobody knows the actual values to... and if just one of those values is zero, then we are alone.

Still, you are correct, the universe is a very, VERY, large place. So large, in fact, that there could be a civilization as advance as us in every single galaxy... and even if that were the case, we would never find any of them, because of the distance involved. Have you ever tried to find a neelde in a haystack? How about a needle in 100 billion haystacks. Without leaving the haystack you are in? And no proof that a needle even exists in the first place....

The point is, we can discuss the possibility forever, but unless there is some actual physical evidence, the answer might as well be "No," because we truly, never will "know."
