I'm kind of new here,so I don't know evereything, can I use them for something?or do they serve no purpose rather than making everyone gasp in awe at the sheer thousands of points you have?By the way, sorry for putting it in the wrong section.

Your points serve little purpose other than indicating how many questions you've answered and best answers given. It may give you some satisfaction to think about the fact that you have accumulated that many points. However, most people answer questions b/c they enjoy sharing what they know. It's easy to get "caught up" in amassing points--even addictive at times. But eventually you'll sit back and realize that you are taking it way to seriously b/c the stark reality is that the points mean absolutely nothing outside of these forums...really even within the confines of these forums, it means little to nothing other than to feed the ego.

If you have more points then you are on a higher level and can answer, comment on and vote for more questions (as well as ask more questions, assuming you actually want an answer).
Other than that, not much.

They really don't do anything. They are really just a status symbol.
Personally, I think receiving a "Best Answer" chosen by asker, with an asker's comments is most valuable.

When you apply for a job flipping hamburgers you mention your points and they will hire you immediately.

Nobody is gonna gasp in awe, believe me.
You help others and learn in the process.

Unless you need the ego boost, doesn't mean a thing. It might mean you're spending too much time in front of the keyboard.
