Why is it warmer in the northern hemisphere during July

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-05-25] [Hit: ]
the northern hemisphere is tilted toward the sun - giving us longer days and more direct sunshine. In wintertime, were tilted *away* from the sun - giving us shorter days, and the sun is much lower in the sky - not heating as much as it would be directly overhead.-geometry is the answer. The earths axis is tilted at abt 23deg to the plane of its orbit our N-hemisphere summers occur when the earth is actually at aphelion (abt 5million km further away-the orbit is eccentric).......
So why is it generally warmer in the northern hemisphere during July rather than during January?

-
The Earth is tilted on its axis and the northern hemisphere is titled closer to the sun during July, and further away during January.

-
The Earth's axis is tilted 23.5 degrees from it's orbital plane; During June, July, and August, the northern hemisphere is tilted toward the sun - giving us longer days and more direct sunshine.

In wintertime, we're tilted *away* from the sun - giving us shorter days, and the sun is much lower in the sky - not heating as much as it would be directly overhead.

geometry is the answer. The earth's axis is tilted at abt 23deg to the plane of its orbit our N-hemisphere summers occur when the earth is actually at aphelion (abt 5million km further away-the orbit is eccentric). However this is when the NH is tilted towards the Sun. So although there's abt 5% less energy reaching us, the area subtended at the surface in the NH is much gr8r..ie the Intensity=Energy/m^2 is gr8r (in our winters gr8r energy reaches NH, but spread over a larger area). Actually SH summers shud be a wee bit warmer than ours cos this occurs @ perihelion. No tilt..almost no seasons!

The axis of the earths rotation is slanted.

In July the northern hemisphere is angled towards the sun, so it is warm

In December the southern hemisphere faces the sun, and the north faces away, so the north is cold.

-
The sun is directly overhead in the Northern Hemisphere during the month of July, making it a lot hotter there. In January the sun is directly overhead in the southern hemisphere, making the weather warmer there and colder in the north.

-
The Earth has a 23.5 degree tilt. The Northern hemisphere is tilted more toward the sun in July and tilted away in January.

Here's a nice video that really shows you:

because it is SUMMER in the Northern Hemisphere in July, NOT winter like it is the southern hemisphere, opposite seasons no matter what!
