Why are there still some people who believe that the Earth is 6,000 years old? God said so (translation: My pastor says so, but he doesnt know where he heard it either.)Is The Bible says so equivalent to There are thousands of peer-reviewed theses and papers by reputable Ph.D-winning scientists that prove so?......

People *want* to believe in meaning. G-d is the ultimate symbol of meaning, as he/she/it either created or directs the world for a purpose.
Those who are willing to believe in a classical view of God (omniscient, omnipotent, personal, immanent, etc) can easily explain away any inconsistencies by one of these means:
1.) G-d created the illusion of [evolution / immense age / physical principles...] as a [challenge / temptation / mystery...] so that True Believers would have to exercise faith in order to be [saved / enriched / enlightened...].
2.) G-d provided perfect information, but we as imperfect beings, have [misunderstood / misinterpreted / concealed ...] the true story. Any mismatch between perceived workings of the universe and the real workings as described in holy writ is due to our mis-transcribing truth [either in the writ or in the measurement of the universe].
2.) G-d is in a battle with [Satan / Evil / Unbelievers...] and the supposed information provided by "scientists" is really propaganda in the battle, so pay it no mind.
3.) Scientists who lack faith are clearly not understanding the workings of the real universe, which is better understood by believing scientists, even if their degrees, experience, and impartiality are all questioned by the godless selfish technologists.
