What was there before the big bang

I think the real question is what REALLY happened? Seems awfully funny that we think that we can say what happened based on extremely distant observation.

Big Bang might have happened... yeah. But I bet its equally likely that it didn't happen, and the background radiation is from something entirely different, and an entirely different event is causing the expansion. Perhaps a cataclysmic event?

Possibly nothing because the Big Bang included God creating time, so the preposition BEFORE would not exist. You could say an undeveloped dimension was BEFORE the big bang.
