-Youd have to call them unique critters along with Echidnas who have found themselves lost in the timewarp of multiple sex chromosomes.-It is still a mammal. They are called monotremes which are mammals that lay eggs. Also in this group are the echidnas.-It is in the family monotremata along with echidna.-I would guess that scientists would clss it as being a four legged bird (it lays eggs and has a bill)I hope this helps :)-a Monotreme.......

Another point to add on to his is that while mammary glands are a characteristic of mammals, so is hair. Even mammals which live in the water tend to have hair on their bodies; dolphins and manatees, not positive on whales, but they produce milk.
