It's pretty much what drives my fear of thunderstorms, so it would make me feel so much better if I knew how strong the storm has to be for the tornado to form. Thank you so much!

Tornados don't form too often with thunderstorms. Don't worry, they would tell you on TV and on the Weather Website if a tornado may arrive!

Tornadoes are the most violent of all atmospheric storms. There are two types of tornadoes: those that come from a supercell thunderstorm, and those that do not...So a strom doesnt have to be particularly stong to form a tornado... Those that come from supercell thunderstorms are more violent than those that do not... here are a couple of sites on tornadoes...
