8/2000 = ~ .0049. This is a very low number but it indicates that you can burrow your way down to the center if you have a shovel, rake or other implement of destruction like, dynamite.-Dixon say: England-busterwasmycat say: the darn ground wont move out of the way.......
curtisports2 say: The difference in mass between the object gravity is applying force to and the object doing the resisting.

Anjon say: If it's a vacuum tube that can withstand the temperature and pressure, you'll get to the other side in almost exactly 42 minutes without propulsion if it's at the same altitude start and finish.

Answer: nothing if you only rely on gravity as your accelerant and also what slows you down approaching the other side.

Ajay say: Of course you would be experiencing a force which equals g times your mass. Ground also exert equal and opposite force called as normal reaction. Its evident from Newtons 3 rd law " every action has equal and opposite reaction "
-
Philomel say: The resistance of earth. The resistance R =E/I
R is Resistance
E is energy of gravity =9.8
I= dIrt 2000 pounds/ton

R=9.8/2000 = ~ .0049.
This is a very low number but it indicates that you can burrow your way down to the center if you have a shovel, rake or other implement of destruction like, dynamite.

Andrew Smith say: Just imagine that the ground was NOT solid. Like the ocean.
Now if the density of the ground was greater than your density then the ground is pulled down forcing you up like a cork.
To a large extent this is what is happening.
The ground that you are on is floating on a much denser core.
The ground moves slowly so there are parts where the plates are pulling apart and parts where they are pushing together.

In effect you are a tiny cork floating above a sea of molten iron.

Grundoon say: ground
-
Morningfox say: The electromagnetic repulsion from the electrons in your body against the electrons in the ground.
-
say: The short answer is: the ground.

The slightly longer answer is:
The ground exerts an upwards contact force on you (due to the repulsion between the atomic electrons in the ground surface and the atomic electrons in your foot surface).

This contact force balances the pull of gravity.
-
Jim say: The ground exerts a force on you equal and opposite to the force of gravity.
