In pair production why electron and positron move in opposite directions

. and its because of their opposite charge.......
the positron is the anti particle of the electron, so the question is stated correctly; conservation of momentum requires that the two anti particles move in different directions

It is not necessary that electron and positron move in opposite directions. If the pair production is due to head on collision of two photons of same wavelength and sufficient energy, then the initial momentum of photon-photon system is zero. So electron and positron should fly off in opposite

direction to conserve momentum. If pair production is due to interaction of sufficiently energetic photon interacting with a nucleus, the electron & positron will move in opposite dirction if the entire momentum of the photon was absorbed by the nucleus. Else they'll move with an angle < 180 deg

As much of an idiot as the last person who answered your question is, he's actually kinda right. The positron is the anti-particle to the electron meaning it has opposite charge, so the electron and positron repel eachother, but this is not really the full answer.

The real answer is that no one really knows what anti-matter is. Anti-matter always travels in the opposite direction of it's corresponding particle and is said to be that particle traveling back in time. Feynman described anti-matter and matter as being the same particle, one going forward in time, and the other going backwards in time.

First off its called a proton, not a positron... and it's because of their opposite charge.
