What is an atom? What is an element?
-
An atom is the smallest unit of matter that still retains the intensive properties of an element. An atom is composed of subatomic particles: Protons - positively charged particles located in the center of the atom, which is called the nucleus (the number of protons determine the element).... neutrons - neutral charged particles located in the nucleus (the number of these determine the isotope of the element)... and electrons - incredibly small negatively charge particles located in orbitals around the nucleus. An element is just an atom or group of atoms with a certain number of protons. Atoms of elements can be chemically bonded to other atoms, this is called a molecule or a compound. If an atom is bonded to itself, then it is a molecule but it is not a compound.

An atom is as smallest particle of an element which can take part in the chemical reaction.
Whereas an element is a substance which consists of the same kind of atoms of the same properties and when subdivided ends up to the smallest particle of that element which we call an atom of the this element which still possesses the same properly as that of this element.

1. An atom is the basic unit of matter. In the center lies the nucleus. The nucleus is made up of positively charged protons and neutrally charged neutrons. The nucleus is surrounded by a cloud of negatively charged electrons.
2. An element is a pure and simple chemical substance. It is determined by the number of protons in it's nucleus (atomic number). Examples include Hydrogen, Helium, Lithium, etc.

an atom is an extremely small thing that makes up the entire universe (or multiverse not sure yet)
They have a nucleus and an electron cloud
the nucleus is made up of protons and neutrons (which are made up of one proton and one neutrino but u don't need to know that)
and the electron cloud is made up of electrons orbiting the nucleus
and an element is when there is only one type of atom in something
a compont/mixture has multiply types

if i remember my grade 8 science teacher tells us this... Yes, an atom is an element.
I could be wrong tho.I fail science.
