All we need to know for this problem is V = IR
The current in the 5.0 ohm resistor is 6V / 5ohm = 1.2A
The current in the whole circuit must also be 1.2A and the equivalent resistance of the whole circuuit is 8.0ohm + 5.0ohm = 13ohm, so we can find voltage across the battery.
(1.2A)*(13ohm) = 15.6V
The current in the 5.0 ohm resistor is 6V / 5ohm = 1.2A
