energy is not a particular thing, it comes in many forms depending on what physical process you are talking about
what is know is: energy is the ability to cause or allow physical changes. it can be measured and calculated. IF and that is a big IF, you know all the forms and changes the total amount stays the same. it is "conserved quantity" eventually all energy can be changed to low temperature heat. thermodynamics.

we are still learning. 4 years in U getting a BS in physics and I still do not know much.
