Think of these three laws:
Any science/technology that is sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from magic (Arthur C Clarke' law - 20th century stuff))
Any magic that is sufficiently advanced to give predictable results is indistinguishable from a science or technology (Merlin's Law - dark ages and medieval alchemy times)
Any science/tecnology or magic that is sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from a rigged demonstration (Programmer's Law - 21st century).
So, it's more a matter of what you want to see than any invention.
