I have some lorazepam from 2009. I hardly ever take them, but I'm needing one tonight. Will it be safe to take one since its expired?

RICHARD say: It is good to ask this question, but you should do your own research when it comes to something this important.
Ativan does not break down into anything toxic over time, so it is safe to consume. More likely, the pills will have a lower level of effectiveness, or do nothing at all.
Pretty much, every prescription bottle says the medication expires in a year. If you look at the packaging it came in, the date is often much further out, and even then, the medicine probably lasts much longer than the label says. I've taken 10+ year old medicine that worked just fine. I've also taken old medicine that did nothing.

poldi2 say: Safe yes, but possibly not very effective since drugs lose effectiveness with time (and 9 years is a long time).

Papa say: They may not harm you but for sure they wouldn't work. Please destroy them.

Mary say: definitely not. it won't be effective at all as it is well past its expiration date. it would be best to get some new
