Whats safer ativan or ambien

I have been taking ativan 0.5mg - 1mg once at night every day for many years just to sleep. I tried to stop, during other pain medications for an illness, because I didn't want to mix them. But, I could not sleep, and got terrible anxiety at night without it, even though my dose is low. I am strting to get eye twitching which I read could be from the ativan, so I would like to wean off of it. However, I would like to try ambien, a very small amount just to see if it helps me fall asleep. is ambien more dangerous than ativan? I am not the type to ever take alot at once, but I still didn't know the safety issues.

Neither are safer. While ambien is not a benzo, it does the same thing to the brain, and is every bit as addictive as ativan. It is worse than ativan and far more dangerous - it is stronger and shorter lasting, which is a bad combination. Going from ativan to ambien is like going from the frying pan to the fire.

If you want to get off of ativan and switch to ambien, you will trade one addiction to a far worse addiction. Ativan is difficult to quit taking, but quitting ambien is like someone opening a door to hell and shoving you through.

When I quit ambien, I hardly slept for four very long very hellish months. I suffered severe insomnia and extreme sleep deprivation, and almost did not survive.

Stick with ativan if you have to, or talk to your doctor about quitting, but please don't switch to ambien. It is a drug from hell and will only make things worse.

both are equally dangerous and you are addicted. if you are tired of being fatigued and having to rely on these, my advice is to taper off with the help of your doctor - and for sleep try remeron or trazadone. Bot h medications I suggested are non-addictive, and do not lose their inefficiency for insomnia. They also do not interfere with libido and your energy levels.
