I'm going to need an MRI for my forearm because I keep bruising after I do any type of sports, which was originally thought to be a tendon injury. I was just wondering if anyone knew if I'd need an IV? I heard that you only need one if it's an MRI with contrast, what does that mean?

Thanks in advance :)

I have broken my ankle and never needed a contrast MRI. I would consult with your doctor as to whether or not you really need one as the contrast can have negative side effects in SOME people (Then again all drugs can). I have had bone, cartilage, ligament, and tendon injuries in the same ankle and was only offered contrast during one Imaging by mistake. Always ask questions and call your doctor's office before you go for the MRI to make sure the radiologist technician does not make a mistake.

And NO, an I.V. is not needed. Just keep in mind the more you move, the longer you have to be in the MRI as they may need to do a re-image. So don't fidget! :)

Contrast is a dye they inject -they would only do that if one was ordered with contrast.
