10 mg of temazepam is a very low dose. Actually in studies people who took 10 mg of temazepam showed no significant improvement in sleep.

Studies also found that 30-40 mg at night was the most effective dose (typically larger amounts are not more effective) and it significantly increased total sleep time, it decreased sleep latency (time to fall asleep), it decreased the number of nocturnal awakenings, and was generally well tolerated. In Canada, where I live and practice medicine, the lowest dose of temazepam we have is 15 mg (along with 30 mg).

The maximum dose of temazepam according to the prescribing information for temazepam from various countries is as follows:

The United Kingdom lists 30-40 mg as the maximum dose
Australia lists 30 mg
The Republic of Ireland lists 30-40 mg
The United States lists 30 mg
Canada lists 30 mg
South Africa lists 30 mg

My best advice would be to talk to your doctor about increasing the dose of temazepam to 30 mg since that dose is significantly effective, unlike 10 mg.

In addition some people simply don't respond well to certain medications and it may be that temazepam is not the best medication for you (but at a higher dose it should work).

There are a number of other sleeping medications (although I am not sure where you live and each country has different medication available). Other common sleeping medications include zopiclone, zolpidem, nitrazepam, flunitrazepam, triazolam, and zaleplon.

Also certain medications are best for sleep onset insomnia (hard time falling asleep) such as zaleplon, triazolam, zolpidem, others for sleep maintenance insomnia (hard time staying asleep), and some are effective for both problems such as zopiclone, nitrazepam, and flunitrazepam.

Temazepam is effective for both problems but it is particularly effective for sleep maintenance insomnia.
