Use symbolic capabilities of a calculator to calculate f prime of x using definition lim as x approaches 0 (f(x+h)-f(x))/h for following functions
a) f(x)= x^1000
b) f(x)=x^6
a) f(x)= x^1000
b) f(x)=x^6

The TI-84 Plus doesn't have any symbolic capabilities, so you'll need to use something else. The TI-89 has a CAS, and therefore can calculate symbolic derivatives, so if you have one lying around, you can use that. Otherwise, http://wolframalpha.com/ is a pretty handy (and powerful) calculator.

looks like one guy needed help with this too. use formula f prime x =nx^n-1.
ex: x^6 is x^n
so plug in formula and you get: 6x^6-1
=6x^5
ex: x^6 is x^n
so plug in formula and you get: 6x^6-1
=6x^5
