(+4) 2/a = 6/a + 10
(-6/a) -4/a = 10
This is because both fractions have the same letter/number at the bottom so they can be added/subtracted from each other.
(*a) -4 = 10a
(/10) a = -4/10 or simplified as -2/5.
This answer is if the fraction is separate from the other number and isn't underneath it.

I will assume that you mean 2/(a - 4) = 6/(a + 6)
=> 2(a + 6) = 6(a - 4)
=> 2a + 12 = 6a - 24
i.e. 4a = 36
=> a = 9
checking gives 2/5 = 6/15

a[2/a-4=6/a+6]
2-4a=6+6a
6a+4a=2-6
10a=-4....Dividing both sides by 10
a=-2/5
2-4a=6+6a
6a+4a=2-6
10a=-4....Dividing both sides by 10
a=-2/5

2/a-4=6/a+6
2/a - 6/a = 6 + 4
(2 - 6)/a = 10
-4/a = 10
-4 = 10a
-4/10 = a
-2/5 = a
2/a - 6/a = 6 + 4
(2 - 6)/a = 10
-4/a = 10
-4 = 10a
-4/10 = a
-2/5 = a
