What does it mean to measure to the nearest 1/4 inch

1/4 in. intervals ------ 0 in., 1/4 in., 1/2 in.......

ex. round 5 and 3/8 in up to 5 1/2 in.
ex. 5 in. would just be 5 in. as 6 and 1/4 would just stay the same

When you measure something, it's almost never gonna be dead on at a certain point on the ruler. It'll more than likely end up being between the lines. When it's between the quater marks between the inches, look very closely and see which quarter it falls closest to. Then you'll tell them that quarter mark is the actual measurement of the object you're measuring.
