If I have 2 different measurements, how would I draw a tiled background (squares of equal size) across a paper

the measurements in inches are 12 in (length) & 8.14 in (width). [.14 meaning out of the 16 markings between the inch marks..Sorry if this is wrong,......
My measurements are 30.5 cm (length) and 22.5 cm (width). I need to make a tiled background on a paper so that every square on the paper is exactly the same size. Is there some sort of simple formula for this I'm neglecting? d: If not, can you tell me how to calculate this anyway?

Also, if it's easier, the measurements in inches are 12 in (length) & 8.14 in (width). [.14 meaning out of the 16 markings between the inch marks..Sorry if this is wrong, I haven't measured in inches in ages.]

14/16 = 7/8 so the second dimension is 8.875, but it's easier to work in cm.

Let x be the length of a side of a square.
n = number of squares across
m = number of squares down

nx = 22.5
mx = 30.5

therefore n/m = 22.5/30.5 = 45/61

Use 45 squares across and 61 down

22.5 cm/45 = 0.5 cm

That's the length of a side of each tile.
