Slope of a line through two points is rise over run
rise is the change in the y coordinate, and run is the change in the x coordinate
so,
slope = rise / run = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)
= (-8 - 2) / (4 - 6)
= -10 / -2
= 5
rise is the change in the y coordinate, and run is the change in the x coordinate
so,
slope = rise / run = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)
= (-8 - 2) / (4 - 6)
= -10 / -2
= 5

if ( a, b) and (c,d) are two points, the slope of the line through the points is (d-b)/(c-a) using this formula, substituting a=4, b=-8, c=6 and d=2, the slope, usually denoted as m, equals (2+8)/(6-4) = 5
hence the slope is 5
hence the slope is 5

-10/-2=5, m=5
