Can someone else please look at his word problem? i'm having soooo much trouble with it.

P(x)= 1.Hope that helps/makes any sense!......
in 2000, 55% of the residents in a large city regularly used the newspaper for getting news and this has decreased at an average rate of approximately 1.4% per year since then. Find a linear function in slope intercept form that models this desciption. The function should model the percentage of residents P(x) who regularly used the news outlet x years after 2000.

P(x)=

i have no idea how to make an equation out of this and the one i came up with didn't look right to me.

Envision a graph of a function that is increasing over time in a straight line (linear function).

We are using 2000 as x=0 because we are modeling a function after the year 2000.
We know that 55% of the residents used the newspaper in 2000 so therefore the y-intercept is 55% because the y-intercept is when x=0.
b= 55

The slope of a line is the change in y/ change in x. We were given the rate of change as 1.4, which would therefore be the slope because it is telling us how much the percent of residents use the newspaper (change in y) per (which is equated with a division or fraction) year (change in x).
m=1.4

y= mx+ b
P(x)= 1.4x + 55

Hope that helps/makes any sense!
