Can anyone show me how to do linear approximation

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-10-27] [Hit: ]
5 and x-a = 0.f(17.5007)-f(17.5) = 2pi (17.5)^2 * 0.0007=1.......
Use linear approximation to estimate the amount of paint in cubic centimeters needed to apply a coat of paint 0.07 cm thick to a hemispherical dome with a diameter of 35 meters.

Can anyone show me how to do this?

-
in general given f(x) ,a linear approximation at a point a is f(x) = f(a) +f´(a) (x-a)
Here the function is the volume
V= 2/3 pi * r^3 a = 17.5 and x-a = 0.0007 m f(x) =V(r)
f(17.5007)-f(17.5) = 2pi (17.5)^2 * 0.0007 =1.347m^3
In cm^3 it would be 1.347* 10^6

find the radius and then subtract by x find square root of area.
