a) What is the slope of the line through the points (5, 2) and (5, -3)?

b) Describe the line through these points.

y2 - y1
----------- = slope
x2 - x1

(5,2) and (5,-3)

-3 - 2
--------- = slope
5 - 5

slope = undefined {you cannot divide by zero}

(5, 2) and (5, -3)?

For the same value of the independent variable x = 5 you have two different dependent variables y = 2 and y = -3

this is a vertical asymptote (x = 5) and is not the equation of a function that stipulates the association "for one x we'll have one and just ONE y"
