I'm just curious bc my mom said she never had to use algebra in her life (except while learning it in school)... So why do we have to learn algebra?

She uses algebra every day, she just doesn't realize it. Does she calculate her MPG? Does she balance her check book, budgeting for certain amounts at the grocery store?
The point of mathematics for the average person is to teach logic and basic number functions for every day life. The point of mathematics for still others is of a far higher degree of importance. How else do you think a bridge you may drive over won't suddenly collapse? How do you figure the nuclear power plant powering your home won't melt down? It's all math.

OF COURSE SHE USES ALGEBRA IN HER LIFE
Algebra is all about finding the unknown. I have 2 dollars but i need 20 dollars to buy a shirt, how many more dollars do I need. I need 18 more. I know this because 2 + x = 20 and x = 18.
Algebra is just finding what you don't know already.
