here's the problem:
x - 2y = 3xy + 1
&
x = -2
the answer i got was:
y= x - 2/1.
is it wrong? i just randomly solved it as i went along because i'm kinda lost..can you show me step by step on how to do this correctly? i want to make sure i get this problem correctly so that i can solve my other hw problems right! thanks so much!

Hi,
x - 2y = 3xy + 1
-2 - 2y = 3(-2)y + 1
-2 - 2y = -6y + 1
4y - 2 = 1
4y = 3
y = 3/4 <==ANSWER
I hope that helps!! :-)
x - 2y = 3xy + 1
-2 - 2y = 3(-2)y + 1
-2 - 2y = -6y + 1
4y - 2 = 1
4y = 3
y = 3/4 <==ANSWER

-
x - 2y = 3xy + 1
&
x = -2
LET x=-2 in the first equation x - 2y = 3xy + 1
x - 2y = 3xy + 1
(-2)-2y=3(-2)y+1
-2-2y=-6y+1.....ADD 6y to bothe sides
-2+4y=1 ...........ADD 2 to both sides
4y=3
y=3/4
&
x = -2
LET x=-2 in the first equation x - 2y = 3xy + 1
x - 2y = 3xy + 1
(-2)-2y=3(-2)y+1
-2-2y=-6y+1.....ADD 6y to bothe sides
-2+4y=1 ...........ADD 2 to both sides
4y=3
y=3/4
-
given x = -2
So,
x - 2y = 3xy + 1
=> -2 - 2y = 3(-2)y + 1
=> -2 -2y = -6y + 1
=> -2y + 6y = 2 + 1
=> 4y = 3
=> y = 3/4
So,
x - 2y = 3xy + 1
=> -2 - 2y = 3(-2)y + 1
=> -2 -2y = -6y + 1
=> -2y + 6y = 2 + 1
=> 4y = 3
=> y = 3/4
-
x = -2 gives from x - 2y = 3xy + 1
-- 2 -- 2y = 3(--2)y + 1 OR 4y = 3 OR y = 3/4
x = --2, y = 3/4
-- 2 -- 2y = 3(--2)y + 1 OR 4y = 3 OR y = 3/4
x = --2, y = 3/4
