Math Conversion Problem help

Hi, I need help with a math problem involving conversions. I solved it, but I don't know if it is right.

The problem: A Hardware Store sells Nylon Rope for $0.89/YD. A Lumber Yard sells the same rope for $0.94/M.
A) Which store sells the rope for a lower price? Explain your answer.
B) How much money would Jim save is he purchased 550FT. of the less expensive rope?

My solution: A) 1YD. = 91.44cm

0.89 x 9.144 (10 yd.) = $8.14
0.94 x 9 (less than 10 yd.) = $8.46
The hardware store sells the rope for less becasue at the lumber yard, I'm buying less than 10 yd. and paying morethat getting exactly 10 yd. from the hardware store.

B) 550 ft. x 12" = 6600" divided by 36 yd. = 183.4 rd.
91.44 x 183.4 = 16770 divided by 100 which = 167.7 meters.
So.. 0.89 x 167.7m = $149.25
And.. 0.84 x 167.7m = $157.64
Jim would save $8.39.

Is this right? Please explain and correct me on what I did wrong. 10 points for best answer!!

what you need to do is to get the price per what ever measurement you decide to use.
So, with 1 yd=91.44 cm. lets determine price per centimeter:
89/91.44=.9733 cents per cm
for the other one 1 m=100 cm, so divide by 100 and you get .94 cents per cm.
So the lumber yard is cheaper.
the difference is .0333 cents per cm.
550 feet is 16764 cm *.0333= 558.2412 cents or $5.58 saved.

Hmm.. not quite sure why you multiplied A with 10 yds. I am going to assume M=meters.
A.) You can convert to whatever units you like, but I am going to convert into meters.
0.89/yd * 0.9144yd/m = $0.97 > $0.94.. So.. A Lumber yard is selling the same rope for less expensive.

B.) You convert feet until you get to the correct units. like this....
550 ft * 1yd/3ft * .9144m/yd * $.97/m = $162.62
550 ft * 1yd/3ft * .9144m/yd * $.94/m = $157.58
taking the difference would be $5.03.
I believe for answer A, you forgot to convert...or converted differently. Hope this helps.
