How do I find the scale factor from a large shape to a small shape

Anyone have any help for me?? :) Appreciate ya.-You need to measure each.For instance if the first square is 2x2 and the second square 1x1, then calculate the area.......
It's for my math homework---DUE TOMARROW!!! (8/31/11) I have no idea how to figure it out, and I'm sooooo confused! Anyone have any help for me?? :) Appreciate ya.

You need to measure each.
For instance if the first square is 2x2 and the second square 1x1, then calculate the area. For the first square the area is 4 square inches because 2 times 2= 4 and the second 1 times 1 = 1. So then the scale of the smaller is 1/4 of the larger or 75% reduction. Or if your homework puts the smaller one first then the larger is 4 times the size of the smaller or 400% increase
