Does 6/2 (1+2) equal 9 or 1

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-04-29] [Hit: ]
But the math professor above me made a little mistake :pAnywho, this is how its done.=6/2(1+2)=6/2(3)=6/6=1The 2 and the (1+2) are together, you like it or not.-Its a syntax error you cant tell by the question if 6 is over (2(1+2)) or 2.Advanced calculators wont let you enter that problem because its a syntax error it would have to be 6/(2(1+2))=1 or 6/2*(1+2)=9-6/2(1+2)PEMDASStep 1: Add 1 and 2 because they is in the parenthesisStep 2: Multiply 3 and 2 first because multiplication comes before divisionStep 3: Simply divide 6 by 6Answer: 1-6/ 2(1+2)I see it as this way:6 / (2 + 4)6 / (6)= 1Dont dislike my comment just yet.......

This is how it makes sense to me...please correct me if I'm wrong

6 ÷ 2(2+1)=
If 2 = y
6÷y(y+1)=
6÷[(yxy) + (yx1)]=
6÷[y²+y]=
Replace y = 2
6÷(2²+2)=
6÷(4+2)=
6÷6=1

(6/2)(1+2) = 9, but

6/2(1+2) = 1 because multiplication come before division

6/2(1+2) =
6/2(3) = this is where multiplication is done first rather than division
6/6 =
1

Yes it does equal 1. But the math professor above me made a little mistake :p

Anywho, this is how it's done.
=6/2(1+2)
=6/2(3)
=6/6
=1

The 2 and the (1+2) are together, you like it or not.

Its a syntax error you cant tell by the question if 6 is over (2(1+2)) or 2. Advanced calculators wont let you enter that problem because its a syntax error it would have to be 6/(2(1+2))=1 or 6/2*(1+2)=9

6/2(1+2)

PEMDAS

Step 1: Add 1 and 2 because they is in the parenthesis
Step 2: Multiply 3 and 2 first because multiplication comes before division
Step 3: Simply divide 6 by 6

Answer: 1

6/ 2(1+2)

I see it as this way:

6 / (2 + 4)

6 / (6)

= 1

Don't dislike my comment just yet.
This is just my personal opinion.
I mean, I might be wrong. =)

1 follow this order:
Parenthesis
Exponents
Multiplication
Divison
Addition
Subtraction

6/2(1+2)>6/2(3)>6/6=1

-
If it is 9 then 6/x(1+2)=9 would yield x=2 right? well It doesn't, however 6/x(1+2)=1 yields x=2. Doesn't this prove the answer is 1?

-
Multiplication and division are the same priority, so you do whichever one comes first first, which is division in this case. The answer is obviously 9.

-
P: gotta do the parenthesis first so...(1+2) is 3
