Solve for Y (proportion)

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-04-24] [Hit: ]
,so multiply 17 by 4 .so then its algebra ,y = 7.(7.1.......
Can somebody please explain step by step how to solve this proportion? :)

My problem I'm trying to solve is:
17/y = 9/4

Solve for y. Round to the nearest thousandth.

I will choose a best answer so you can get 10 points.

here's how i was taught ,,

17/y = 9/4

so multiply 17 by 4 . that equals 68

so then it's algebra , 9 time y = 68

[then 68 divided by 9 = y]

y = 7.556
(7.5repeating)

-
17 / y = 9 / 4

1. Cross-multiply both sides of the equal signs, multiplying 17 and 4, giving you 68, and multiplying 9 and y, giving you 9y.
2. 9y = 68
Divide 68 by 9, and since 9 goes into 68 a whole 7 times, you have 7.556, rounded.

First step would be to set up the proportion as you already have.
Next, Cross multiply. 9y=68
Then divide by the coefficient of the variable. 68/9,9y/9
And you have the answer 7.555555556

-
17/y = 9/4

cross multiply

9y = 68

divide both sides by 9

y = 7.556 ====> answer

-
17/Y=9/4

Cross multiply, so 17x4=9Y

68=9Y

Then, you have to get y by itself, so divide each side by Y :

Y= 7.55555555...

-
9y=17(4)
y=17(4)/9
y=17.556
