Which type of generators usually power an item the longest on a full tank of fuel or gas. I want to power a 600w item for 18 hours on a full tank but don't know which type of generator to choose

For that small a load unless you will be using it frequently just buy a large gasoline powered one at the home center. It will have the fuel capacity and will not cost nearly as much as the others.

If it is for daily operation, a diesel generator is best.
