the iupac name of ethylamine is ethanamine and not aminoethane.why so? i am getting so confused about when to use the suffix and when to use the prefix.some link on this topic would be very helpful.

An amine is a functional group, not a substituent, as defined in the IUPAC rules of nomenclature:
